Ramble, ramble, ramblings

Video games have a problem.

It’s not that some people say they cause aggression in their players, or addiction, or death (if you do it too long), it’s that no one seems to get behind celebrating them.

Why have I spent what feels like the entire year so far watching actors give awards to other actors on television, but I’d be hard-pressed to see anything celebration for the people who make video games.

Tons of people LOVE playing games, so why don’t they love watching a celebration of their creation?

I talked about that with the folks behind the big three in the U.S.: The Interactive Achievement Awards, the Game Developer Choice Awards and the Video Game Awards.

One consensus seems to place the blame firmly at the feet of gamers. I kinda agree.

You can read the column over on The Verge.

You can watch the 15th Interactive Achievement Awards on GameSpot this Thursday, if you’re interested. It will be streamed at 7:30 p.m. PST.
